Spring Bank Camp

Given recently cancelled events and the latest escalation from the UK Government to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, we're sure it will come as no surprise to anyone that we will be unable to hold a Spring Bank Camp this year. This final decision was agreed at a committee meeting last night (23.03.2020). However, rather than simply cancelling the camp as it seemed that the chosen theme of Weekend of Witchcraft and Wizardry was extremely popular with groups, we have decided to simply postpone Spring Bank Camp 2020 until 2021... so keep hold of your costumes, gateway ideas and so on for next year!

To the topic of monies paid and refunds:

Group Bookings

We have looked at the financial position of the camp. Although the event is not taking place this year, there are certain costs that we have already had to commit. As such, the committee have agreed that we are able to make refunds as follows:

These refunds must be made to a group bank account. We cannot refund any payments associated with group bookings to personal bank accounts, regardless where the money might have come from in the first place. We intend to send refund payments by bank transfer. For those groups who are not able to receive a bank transfer, we will send you a cheque.

Staff Payments

We will be able to refund 100% of any staff catering / t-shirt / necker fees paid. Staff members will have two options here:

  1. Claim a refund of any fees paid, which will be paid via Bank Transfer.
  2. Donate the fees they have paid to Drum Hill Scout Camp.

As many of you will be aware, the UK Chief Commissioner has suspended all face-to-face scouting activities in the UK to help slow the spread of COVID-19. This has had a dramatic impact on the number of bookings at Drum Hill Scout Camp and therefore the income to the campsite. Unfortunately, the running costs for the campsite remain approximately the same. Any amounts that you can donate to the campsite will help it through this time of uncertainty.

Timescales for Refunds

Please remember that the Spring Bank Committee is made up entirely of Scouting and Guiding volunteers. We too are experiencing the same disruptions to our normal daily lives. Therefore, we ask you to remain patient while we get our processes finalised for securely collecting the necessary information to process refunds.

We hope to get emails out to the group leaders who made the group bookings, and to staff members who have made payments for their staff fees, within the next two weeks. These emails will give specific details about the relevant processes. We will then start processing refunds as soon as we can (once we have the necessary information from you). If you have not heard from us by 30th June 2020, please do get in touch with us (information@springbank.org.uk). Please do not contact us regarding refunds before this date.

Spring Bank 2021

We will start the cycle for Spring Bank 2021 as usual in September this year. Please keep an eye out in your inbox for the GDPR Permission email that we are now obliged to send out after each event. In light of the current situation, we will send these emails once we have finished processing refunds.
